Global terminal operator DP World has officially opened its 1.2-million-TEU Doraleh Container Terminal in Djibouti, the largest box facility in East Africa.
The company earlier in 2000 signed a concession agreement with the local government to operate the Port of Djibouti for 20 years.
The new terminal, with a total quay length of 1,050 meters and draft of 18 meters, can accommodate 15,000-TEU super post-Panamax vessels.
The company currently operates 49 terminals worldwide, and handled nearly 47 million TEUs in 2008. It plans to augment overall capacity to 95 million TEUs over the next 10 years.
