The Port of Ensenada is ready to receive post-Panamax vessels with a capacity of 7,500 TEUs following dredging work at the Mexican port.
The Port of Ensenada has invested nearly $22 million dollars this year on improvements. The construction dredging deepened the access channel from 47 to 54 feet, the turning basin from 1,312.4 to 1,476.5 feet, and the draft increased from 40 to 47 feet, adding capacity for bigger, wider and larger vessels in the ports commercial berths.
The $15 million bill for dredging was financed by the federal government, as a part of the National Infrastructure Plan, and by the Port of Ensenada. The work included extracting 1.6 million cubic meters of material, increasing the capacity of the access channel, turning basin, and the container and breakbulk berths.
