Freight price hikes ‘before Xmas’

11/18/2009 11:42:22 AM

Businesses across the board are likely to be hit with airfreight price rises before Christmas.

FedEx, UPS and DHL all have warned they intend to increase rates while carriers including Lufthansa and Air France group and British Airways at least have said rates are going to rise.

Xmas demand coupled with capacity cuts are understood to have improved loads, prompting the attempt to improve yields.

In Britain, retailers also face an increase in the country’s VAT (Australia’s GST equivalent) as of New Year’s day.
