Australia’s international scheduled freight traffic in September 2009 decreased by 3.9 per cent over September 2008 to 59,712 tonnes, according to the latest data from the Australian Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government.
Inbound freight decreased by 7.6 per cent while outbound freight traffic increased by 1.8 per cent.
For the year, inbound freight traffic has recorded month-on-month decreases of more than 20 per cent for December 2008 to May 2009.
In June 2009, the month-on-month decrease moderated to 16.7 per cent and since July 2009 it has been less than eight per cent.
