China Eastern Airlines Corporation, one of China's top three air carriers, said it has agreed to buy 16 Airbus A330 planes to meet growing demand for long-haul flights, Dow Jones reported.
The jets carry a listed price tag of US$2.6 billion on the price catalog in 2007, but its actual purchase price is substantially lower than that, China Eastern said.
The planes are due to be delivered in stages between 2011 and 2014.
"The aircraft will primarily be used to satisfy the demand arising from the growth of the market of long-and-medium-haul routes passenger air transportation for the coming years, and strengthen the company's operational capabilities," China Eastern said.
