Hamburg Süd said it will join, as a slot charterer, a Hapag- Lloyd service connecting Mediterranean ports to North America Gulf Coast ports.
The German line said that as part of the slot charter arrangement, it will scrap its current Med/Caribbean service, the CCMS, and rearrange its intra-Caribbean feeder network to account for the port coverage lost in the CCMS suspension.
Hapag-Lloyd’s MGX, which is operated with five 3,200-TEU vessels, has a rotation of Cagliari, Livorno, Genoa, Barcelona, Valencia, Port Everglades, Veracruz, Altamira, Houston, New Orleans, and Cagliari. According to ComPair Data, Chilean lines CSAV and CCNI, as well as Israeli line Zim, buy slots on the service.
According to a statement by Hamburg Süd, the service will be expanded to six ships once it joins beginning March 2, subject to approval from the Federal Maritime Commission.
Hamburg Süd also will start a new weekly service in March connecting the Cartagena with Barranquilla, Colombia, and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
