Emirates is adding a daily 777 passenger flight with over 10 tonnes capacity to its 747 freighter services linking Dubai with the Netherlands.
Currently, Emirates SkyCargo ships 1,000 tonnes of flowers to the Aalsmeer flower auctions south of Schiphol, Amsterdam each month from Nairobi, Kenya and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Ram Menen, Emirates' divisional senior vice president Cargo said, “As well as bringing shipments of flowers into Amsterdam, our freighters help export the flowers, via our international hub in Dubai. Figures show that exports from the Netherlands cover more than 60 percent of the world's fresh-cut plants, flowers and bulbs. It's big business!"
Amsterdam will be the airline's second new route this year after Tokyo, which launches March 28. Prague follows on July 1, Madrid services begin in August followed by Dakar in September.
