Luxembourg-based cargo airline Cargolux said it is adding a fifth weekly Boeing 747 freighter service connecting Hong Kong and Budapest.
The airline said inbound service to Budapest typically sees 50 tons of air freight, with IT-related components, telecommunications and audio equipment, machinery and textiles the most common commodities.
“Telecommunications equipment is assembled in the region and later re-exported for worldwide markets,” the airline said.
Kam Jandu, director of aviation at Budapest Airport, said the airport handles 10 cargo carriers, with Cargolux producing the biggest tonnage.
“The Budapest service is also widely popular for imports into Austria, with Salzburg, Innsbruck, Graz, Linz and Vienna as main destinations of all incoming cargo, for which overnight trucking services ex-Budapest are offered,” said Anthony McNichol, Cargolux regional manager. “In addition, direct deliveries are made for shipments of 1,000 kilos-plus, especially welcomed by the local consignees.”
