Danaos and Seaspan said they have added new containerships to their fleets in recent days.
Danaos Corp. said it took delivery of CMA CGM Nerval on May 17 and the YM Mandate on May 19, expanding its operational fleet to a total of 44 containerships.
The Nerval was built at Sungdong Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering for the French carrier and the Mandate was built at Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction Co. for Taiwan's Yang Ming. Both have carrying capacity of 6,500 TEUs, are 300 meters long, 40 meters wide and have a speed of 25.6 knots. The Nerval has commenced its 12-year time charter at a fixed charter rate immediately upon delivery and the Mandate commenced its 18-year bareboat charter at a fixed charter rate immediately upon delivery.
Seaspan said it accepted delivery of the 8,500-TEU COSCO Malaysia from Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. on May 19. This is Seaspan's seventh delivery in 2010, expanding the company's operating fleet to 49 vessels. The Malaysia is on charter to COSCO Container Lines Co. under a 12-year, fixed-rate time charter.
