Damco invests USD 4 million in new South Vietnam facility

8/26/2010 2:55:59 PM

Leading 3PL Damco is investing more than USD 4 million in a new integrated logistics centre at Binh Duong, 25 kilometers from Ho Chi Minh City.

Announced at a contract signing ceremony today, Damco will fully operate the 26,000 square meters custom-built warehouse, built by Thai Binh Shoes Logistics (TBSL). The facility supports Damco’s growth strategy as it looks to strengthen its network presence in Vietnam, with nine existing sites equating 37,000 square meters of warehouse facilities at key gateways nationwide.

Vietnam is a key market for Damco and we will continue to invest in infrastructure, technology and people to support the increasing demands from our customers here. We have taken active roles to support the advancement of the domestic logistics industry by working with private and government sectors to improve supply chain efficiency in Vietnam,” said Tony Hotine, Chief Executive of Damco, Asia Pacific. “By integrating warehousing services with our extensive network and capabilities, customers are able to increase efficiency and agility in their supply chains. We are well-positioned to increase our market share in Vietnam.”

The logistics centre will serve both Cat Lai port and Cai Mep port and is well-connected by road transport. A plan to link the facility to barge infrastructure as an alternative to truck transport is also in place, allowing customers to reduce overall transportation costs and carbon emissions. The facility will be C-TPAT certified and offers consolidation, bonded, domestic and general warehouse services. It is scheduled to be ready by April 2011.

“The new facility is positioned strategically to meet our customers’ growing needs for quality and flexible integrated logistics solutions in one of the fastest growing regions in Vietnam. It will become a central gateway in our distribution networks connecting South, Central and North Vietnam,” said Narin Phol, Country Manager for Damco in Vietnam and Cambodia.

“Damco is one of the largest providers of domestic and international logistics solutions in Vietnam and we are delighted that they have chosen us for the expansion of their logistics facilities. This warehouse, built to Damco’s global standards, will be state of the art in Vietnam, with modern security and fire fighting systems and the latest technology features,” said Nguyen Duc Thuan, Chief Executive Officer for TBS Group, the parent company of TBSL.

Damco is a pioneer in the logistics sector in Vietnam with more than 400 employees and has been operating and investing in the country for more than 15 years.
