Hamburg Sud christened the first of two identical container ships, both of which have a slot capacity of 4,600 20-foot equivalent container units, in Mexico.
The christening of the “Cap Jackson” in Manzanillo was the first time a container ship has been christened in Mexico.
Since its delivery in late May 2010 at the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. in Korea, the “Cap Jackson” has been deployed on Hamburg Sud’s ASPA service between Asia, Mexico and the West Coast of South America.
The ship is named after a peninsula in the Marlborough region in the south of New Zealand. The sister ship, the “Cap Jervis,” is to be christened in Peru in November.
