The Netherlands joined the United States, United Kingdom and other countries on Tuesday in suspending mail and cargo shipments from Yemen.
The decision follows the discovery of explosive devices sent last week in packages shipped out of the Middle East country onto air express networks bound for the United States.
FedEx Express and UPS quickly barred shipments from Yemen, and the U.S. Postal Service said over the weekend it had suspended mail from the country. Germany also has suspended freight originating in Yemen.
Few international carriers outside the Middle East have direct service to Yemen, but freight and passengers generally connect to the country through other countries, most often Dubai in the nearby United Arab Emirates.
Authorities, meanwhile, were pressing an international investigation into the plot. The United States sent experts to the United Kingdom and Dubai to assist in the physical examination of the explosive devices, and Yemen charged an extremist cleric on Tuesday with inciting a plan to kill foreigners.
