Mauritius’ Air Mauritius will begin direct operations to Shanghai, China, from July 2011. Shanghai is the most populous city of China and also is its centre of finance and trade.
The flight will operate via Kuala Lumpur and offer connections from/to Reunion, Antananarivo and South Africa.
André Viljoen, the airline's acting chief executive said: "We are delighted to announce our direct operations to Shanghai and as a result, closer ties between China and Mauritius.
“This flight is a first step in our development in one of the world's fastest growing economies and we hope that our tourism partners will find new opportunities for growth as we diversify our tourism markets and build capacity to East Asia from six weekly frequencies to daily."
