Three Carriers Start New Asia-Brazil Loop

2/28/2011 10:15:34 AM

CSAV, CMA CGM and China Shipping Container Lines will pool vessels in a new service starting in April between Asia and Mexico's West Coast, the Caribbean and the north coast of Brazil.

The new service, which is called the Joint Caribbean Service Sling 2, will deploy 11 vessels of 4,200 20-foot equivalent units each. CSAV will provide five vessels, and CMA CGM and CSCL will each provide three.

The JCS2 loop is the second vessel-sharing agreement that CSAV and CSCL have announced in the last week. The two carriers are starting an all-water service from Asia to the U.S. East Coast that will also call at Lazaro Cardenas in Mexico.

The new JCS2 service is scheduled to start with the sailing from Nansha on April 4 of the CMA CGM Jade.

The JCS 2 will have the following port rotation: Port Kelang, Nansha, Hong Kong, Chiwan, Ningbo, Shanghai, Busan, Manzanillo (Mexico), Manzanillo (Panama), Kingston, Port of Spain, Suape, Salvador and back to Port Kelang.

CSAV said the new loop will reinforce the current Joint Caribbean Service in meeting the growing demand from Asia and the Caribbean.

The existing JCS has the following port rotation: Chiwan, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Ningbo, Shanghai, Qingdao, Busan, Ensenada, Manzanillo (Mexico), Manzanillo (Panama), Cartagena, Kingston, Caucedo, Puerto Cabello, Port of Spain and back to Chiwan.

CSAV said the two services will enable it to provide direct service to Manaus and offer the fastest transit time in the market of 34 days from Busan to Manaus.
