COSCO is to increase capacity 45 per cent on its transpacific CEN service with Evergreen and Wan Hai taking slots, reports Alphaliner.
The service rotation is Dalian, Xingang, Qingdao, Prince Rupert, Long Beach, Oakland and back to Dalian.
Prompted by the onset of the 2013 peak season, Cosco included Evergreen in a slot swap of 1,200 TEU from the Taiwan carrier's new CPS2 service and 300 TEU per week on its transpacific HTW service. Evergreen will take 1,500 TEU CEN slots.
CEN's six ships in the 5,500- to 5,800-TEU range are to be replaced by 7,500-8,500 TEU units transferred from Asia-Europe trades. Three of the 5,500-5,800 TEUers will be reassigned to the Cosco-ANL Sino Australia Service (SAS) that starts in June.
Among the new CEN ships is the 8,501-TEU Cosco Vietnam, which will be redelivered by MSC at the end of the month to Cosco, its head charterer at the end of its current sub-charter.
