The Port of Seattle reported container volume dropped 16.0 percent year-over-year in July to 134,864 20-foot-equivalent units, and plummeted 21.2 percent in the first seven months of 2013 to 925,284 TEUs.
Total international container volume decreased 21.3 percent in July, compared with July 2012. It also fell 25.8 percent from January to July, versus the same period last year, with a 27.1 percent drop in full containerized imports to 334,614 TEUs and a 9.1 percent decrease in full containerized exports to 268,193 TEUs. Excluding empties, international container volume was down 19.0 percent year-over-year in July and 24.0 percent in the first seven months of 2013. However, domestic container volume increased 1.3 percent year-to-date, compared with the first seven months of 2012, reaching 202,107 TEUs.
