FINLAND's Port of Helsinki handled 312,970 TEU in the nine months to September 2013, an two per cent rise over the same period last year.
But the port handled five per cent less cargo overall year on year at 7.78 million tonnes from January to September.
General cargo accounted for most freight, totalling 7.2 million tonnes, a drop of three per cent year on year. Exports of general cargo remained stable at 3.6 million tonnes, while imports dropped six per cent to 3.6 million tonnes, reported Gdynia's Baltic Transport Journal.
Dry bulk throughput plunged 21 per cent year on year to 531,000 tonnes. Ro-ro traffic totalled 362,559 cargo units, a year-on-year decline of five per cent.
