IFLN Global Logistics Services, recently assisted Airlink Group Middle East and one of its major oil and gas client to airfreight two oversized crates from Houston to Cairo.
Because of the size and height of the cargo there was only one carrier able to move the cargo to Cairo by air. The cargo was ready to go at the end of December 2007, but the carrier was unable to move this cargo until the end of January or early February 2008. The problem was the availability of space – not from Houston to Europe, but from Europe to Cairo. The carrier had to reduce temporarily all cargo aircraft flights to Cairo because of heavy maintenance on several aircraft.
With the customer now facing critical long delays and increased costs, IFLN offered an alternative air and sea route via Italy. With the assistance in Houston, AM Worldwide and Prima in Italy, the cargo was flown in the first week of January to Milan and trans-loaded into a 40’ open-top container for the ocean voyage across the Mediterranean to Alexandria.
This routing enabled IFLN to keep transportation costs in check and get the cargo to its final destination before the air carrier had even agreed a fixed booking. It just goes to show that IFLN’s creative and resourceful approach can solve problems for their customers.
