A direct container train service from Dalian to Moscow via the China-Russia border town of Manzhouli has begun operations.
Cargo shipped to Dalian port can be transported by railway to Zabaikalask Station, Russia's border railway station next to China's Manzhouli, for reloading and then directly delivered to Moscow and St Petersburg.
The new train service helps to reduce cargo transportation cost and time to a great extent as the journey takes only 18 days, which is 20 days less than shipping services and 10 days less than the Siberian Land Bridge route.
Before this, most shipments from China, Japan and South Korea to Russia and Europe were handled by shipping services or by the Siberian Land Bridge via Russia's Vostochny port.
To support the development of the new service, Dalian Port Group will help to boost the expansion of railway container centres in Harbin and Manzhouli.
