Toyota has apologised for using 96 car engines left to rust in a container for two years at Vietnam's Haiphong port.
The company said due to a logistics control management mistake, one container having 96 engines was left unattended at Haiphong port from January 29, 2006 to February 28, 2008.
In a statement explaining why they still used the engines, the company said that a series of quality inspections and tests on one of the 96 engines at the factory showed no apparent problems.
The engines were used in Innova and Hiace vehicles, with 90 of the cars already sold. Toyota is working out arrangements with the buyers.
