The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) rejects container handling charge (CHC) and shipping surcharge hikes at Tanjung Priok Port, which has been brought into effect since September 1.
The CHC hike on September 1, 2008 has made foreign shipping companies raise their surcharges by an average of US$7 per box for all kinds of containers.
The raise instantly boosts terminal handling charge (THC) collected by foreign shipping companies from goods owners.
THC for 20-feet containers has surged from $95 to $115 per TEU, while THC per FEU has soared from $135 per box to $161.
The new tariffs apply at the Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) and the Koja Container Terminal.
Tariffs at the pier 009 of the Multi Terminal Indonesia (MTI) have also increased from $53 to $66 per TEU and from $79.5 to $99 per FEU.
