Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou said during a tour of Kaohsiung Harbour that the harbour's competitiveness is expected to be boosted after it opens for direct sea transport across the Taiwan Strait, Asia Pulse reported.
He said that once direct shipping links are established, international merchant ships will not need to sail via a third destination, which will help enterprises cut transport costs.
Ma made the remarks while meeting with businessmen to listen to their opinions on enhancing Kaohsiung Harbour’s competitiveness in light of the dwindling cargo throughput of the port over the past few years.
