TMT opts for Good Hope route

11/27/2008 10:02:25 AM

Taipei, Taiwan-based ocean carrier TMT Co., one of Asia's largest shipping firms, said it plans to divert its entire fleet of oil tankers around the Cape of Good Hope due to concerns of piracy off the coast of Somalia in the Gulf of Aden.

The firm operates a fleet of about 20 very large crude carrier vessels from the Middle East to the United States and Europe.

According to a report, Somali pirates Monday hijacked the Yemeni cargo ship Amani in the Gulf of Aden. It is the 40th vessel hijacked this year by Somali pirates.
