Beaujolais shipped by sea

11/25/2008 10:11:03 AM

In a move that no doubt is causing distress in boardrooms of affected airlines, French Beaujolais nouveau winemakers have begun split-shipping the wine by sea as well as air.

Seventy five per cent of Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau was delivered by ship from France to the US instead of by air freight this month.

As well as offsetting the wine's carbon footprint, the difference in shipping costs allowed the wine to hold its retail price of US$10-12 per bottle.
