Carrier warns of West African congestion

4/20/2009 10:21:04 AM

Africa-based ocean carrier OTL Line issued an advisory to shippers Thursday saying that land transport via ports in Senegal has been severely disrupted, and that customers should consider alternative routes to the landlocked west African nation.

"The Senegal-to-Mali transport corridor has further deteriorated," OTL said. "Road bottlenecks and rail strikes are prevalent. Therefore we would advise using alternative routes to Bamako via Abidjan, Conakry (Guinea), Lomé (Togo) and Tema (Ghana)."

OTL did say it would continue to offer a road service to Kayes (in western Mali) to Dakar (in Senegal).
