U-Freight's sea freight arm, U-Ocean, is undertaking a major expansion of services to boost its coverage of key markets throughout South East Asia.
Weekly ocean freight operations were established in early-2008 to serve markets in South East Asia via transhipment through the Hong Kong gateway, and a Los Angeles to Shanghai service was added in June 2008.
According to Terence Tsang, a senior vice president of U-Freight America with specific responsibilities for U-Ocean's operations in North America, the company will start operations serving Shanghai from Chicago and New York, and later this year plans to launch separate ocean freight consolidation services connecting San Francisco with Hong Kong and Shanghai.
Tsang says the company expects that the pattern of world trade will undergo significant developments this year that will generate stronger westbound traffic to China, making U-Freight very positive about the prospects for its Shanghai consol services throughout 2009.
He added that once the last planned expansion of its Shanghai service is established, U-Freight sill look at more Chinese destinations for the consolidation services.
