Hanjin Shipping said it is instituting rate and fuel surcharge increases on its transatlantic services.
The Korean liner carrier is seeking $150 per TEU and $225 per 40-foot-equivalent-unit increases in base rates in both directions between Europe and North America, starting Sept. 1.
“Despite the company’s continuous efforts to reduce costs, this rate restoration is inevitable in order to maintain quality service to its customers under the current economic climate,” the carrier said.
Between Northern Europe and South America, Hanjin will also start a fuel recovery charge of $73 per TEU and $146 per FEU northbound and 55 euros per TEU and 110 euros per FEU southbound.
The fuel surcharge will begin Aug. 15.
