Maersk Israel has announced two new shipping services to/fm Israel to Russia and Turkey which will improve the company's position vis-à-vis the Israeli shipping public.
According to Mr. Steve Felder, Managing Director of Maersk Israel ,the company will inaugurate a direct service from Ashdod to Novorossiysk, Russia and direct service from Ashdod to Turkish ports.
The new service to/fm the Russian port of Novorossiysk will begin in October 2009 with weekly sailing (on Wednesday). The company will deploy TEU 900 vessel which will have transit time of 5 days.
The ports rotation will be as follow: Ashdod > Novorossiysk > Port Said > Ashdod.
Felder noted that the decision concerning the vessels' departure day from Israel was based on the special needs of agriculture exporters.
The new direct service to/fm Turkey will deploy two TEU 1,200 capacity vessels and have the fastest transit time with the following port rotation: Ashdod > Haydarpasa > Izmit > Amberly > Ashdod
Transit time for import will be 2 days from Amberly, three days from Izmit and four days from Haydarpasa.
The new service will operate in combination with the existing shipping service running from Ashdod to Port Said. The new direct services will strengthen Maersk position in Egypt and Israel as well as Turkey.
