Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics boosted the frequency of its Japan-Korea-China roll-on, roll-off shipping service, citing a "resurgence" of trade among the three countries.
The leading ocean car carrier said its China Express Service will increase to three sailings a month from two at present following a surge in demand for transport of vehicles, rolling equipment and non-containerized cargoes.
The enhanced service comes just six months after WWL, a privately owned Swedish/Norwegian company, warned it expected to lay up around 20 percent of its 60 car carriers and ro-ro vessels following a 30-40 percent slump in demand for global auto transport.
The service will call at Kobe, Nagoya, Toyohashi, Gamagori, Hitachinaka and Yokohama in Japan, Pusan and Inchon in South Korea and the Chinese ports of Tianjin, Shanghai and Guangzhou. The service also includes logistics and overland transportation.
Yokohama will serve as the main transshipment hub for WWL services from the United States and Oceania to Far Eastern destinations and from Korea and China to various worldwide destinations.
WWL operates on 20 routes worldwide carrying 2.3 million vehicles by sea and 2 million on land annually, generating revenue of approximately $2.3 billion.
