Air India to Launch Daily NY/DC Flights

10/27/2009 9:59:17 AM

Air India will begin a daily combined New York/Washington, D.C., service linking Delhi and Kolkata on Dec. 1 with a 777LR.

The Indian government reportedly is willing to provide the airline with $1.1 billion in return for $650 million in cost cuts. The airline reported losses of $875 million for its last fiscal year ending in March 2009 and is forecast to lose up to $1.06 billion in the current financial year.

Air India currently operates daily non-stop flights to Mumbai and Delhi from JFK, daily direct service to India from Chicago as well as services from Newark via Frankfurt and from Toronto via London.
