Zim Integrated Shipping Services held a naming ceremony for the Zim Colombo, a newly built 4,255-TEU vessel, at the state-owned Jaya Container Terminal in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The Zim Colombo will be deployed in Zim’s East Mediterranean Express (EMX) Service, taking the carrier’s total vessel deployment on the weekly service to 11.
The expansion is part of the Israeli carrier’s “super-slow-steaming” strategy that is expected to yield substantial fuel savings.
The EMX rotation is Busan; Shanghai; Ningbo; Shenzhen-Da Chan Bay; Port Kelang, Malaysia; Colombo; Suez Canal; Haifa and Ashdod, Israel; Izmit, Turkey; Novorossiysk, Russia; Constanta, Romania; Ambarli, Turkey; Haifa, Suez Canal, Nhava Sheva, India; Colombo; Port Kelang; Shenzhen-Da Chan Bay; Xiamen; and back to Pusan, offering a 68-day round-trip voyage.
