Deutsche Bahn said a new container train has successfully begun operations between Duisburg, Germany, in the Ruhr region and Moscow.
The "Moscovite line" is traveling once a week between Germany and Russia, making the 2,200-kilometer (1,367-mile) run in seven days.
The train is operated by Trans Eurasia Logistics (TEL) GmbH, a joint venture founded in 2008 by partners Deutsche Bahn and Russian Railways (RZD) as well as Polzug, Kombiverkehr and TransContainer. DB and RZD each have a 30 percent share in the joint venture.
Containers are transferred to the Russian broad gauge track in Brest, on the Polish-Belarusian border.
