Orient Overseas Container Line, adding to a growing list of surcharges to compensate for port congestion in the Indian sub-continent, said it will apply port congestion surcharges on shipments from Hong Kong, Macau and South China to Bangladesh.
The charges effective Aug. 1 follow Cosco Container Lines’ announcement that it will impose a congestion surcharge at India’s Jawaharlal Nehru port for goods going to Europe effective Aug. 15.
OOCL’s surcharge covers goods going into the Indian sub-continent from Hong Kong, Macau and South China.
The surcharges on shipments to Chittagong are $150 per TEU, $300 per FEU and $300 per FEU high cube container.
The surcharges to Dhaka are $250 per TEU, $500 per FEU and $500 per FEU high cube.
