European carrier Farnair Europe says freight activity has boosted its results, adding that only 2007 was a better year (for it).
"Not only did we save costs during the (financial) crisis, we also made investments. The sales team was expanded and focused its efforts," said ceo Guy Gerard.
Its fleet now stands at 15 ATR turboprop aircraft (14 freighters and one 46-seat passenger aircraft) and it is helping to set up Indian cargo operator Deccan 360.
The Basel-based airline also is setting up a training centre in Vienna and is moving into logistics, developing Budapest as its hub.
It also has set up Farnair Rail Logistics.
"Our goal is to operate a hub for air, road and rail freight in Budapest," said Gerard.
