The Grimaldi Group will recommence service between the Mediterranean and West Africa with the launch Oct. 26 of its "Mediterranean Express" service.
The Italian line previously operated a service on that route from the mid 70's until 1999.
The new service, dedicated to the transport of roll-on, roll-off cargo, containers and project cargo, will directly link the ports of Salerno, Genoa, Marseille and Valencia with the ports of Dakar, Lome, Lagos and Cotonou every 18 days.
The multi-purpose vessel deployed on this route will initially be the "Thebeland," which will be replaced in early 2011 by the "Repubblica di Roma.”
This vessel will be joined by the "Medcoa Lome," operated by the French shipping company Navitrans.
Navitrans and Grimaldi will share space on the two ships under and an agreement that guarantees the availability of space on each vessel for freight booked by the other operator.
In addition to direct calls in the Mediterranean and West Africa, the MEX service will also provide transshipment connections, via Salerno and Valencia, where it will connect with various Grimaldi services to and from the Eastern Mediterranean.
