Cathay, Air China venture may take off next month

11/20/2010 9:27:27 AM

Cathay Pacific Airways expects its cargo joint venture with Air China to start operating as early as December, reported Dow Jones Newswires.

"We anticipate to start the business on December 1 or January 1," Cathay Pacific chairman Christopher Pratt said.

In August, Air China said it had been approved by China's economic planning agency, the National Development and Reform Commission, to set up the venture with Cathay Pacific.

The Chinese flag carrier and Cathay Pacific, in which Air China owns a 30 percent stake, finalised plans in February to set up the venture, nearly four years after they announced plans for the tie-up. Cathay Pacific owns a 19.27 percent stake in Air China.
