On December 4th and 6th, Hamburg Süd's Santa Clara - the ship with the world's biggest reefer capacity currently available (1,600 reefer plugs), will dock in Port Elizabeth and Durban for the first time.
With a nominal slot capacity of 7,100 TEU and a length of around 300 metres, the Santa Clara is the largest vessel to sail under the Hamburg Süd flag.
The first of ten new Hamburg Süd container ships of the Santa class, the Santa Clara was put into service at the Okpo yard in South Korea in September 2010, and phased straight into the New Good Hope Express service between Asia and South Africa/South America East Coast, which Hamburg Süd operates jointly with a partner.
The other nine sister ships will follow by the end of 2012.
Overall, Hamburg Süd's fleet consists of around 100 container vessels as well as 50 bulk carriers and product tankers. The shipping group's global network includes some 35 liner services connecting the continents, and 300 offices at all key locations, including Durban, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth.
