Mediterranean Shipping Co. is advising its customers of a series of rate increases and changes in various surcharges that will take effect within the next month.
The Geneva-based carrier said it will implement a general rate increase on all cargoes from the Far East and Asia to the Caribbean, Central America East Coast, Cartagena, Panama and Venezuela as of Jan. 1.
The increases are $280 per 20-foot container and $400 per 40-foot dry container and 40-foot high-cube container.
MSC also said it will implement an emergency rate restoration of $300 per 20-foot equivalent unit as of Jan. 1 on all cargo on its SLDT service from Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia to all destinations covered by SLDT in Northern Europe, Scandinavia, the Mediterranean (all coasts) and the Black Sea.
MSC is increasing its Panama Canal Surcharge as of Dec. 15 because of what it said are “recent increases in the Panama Canal Tariff.” It plans to raise the surcharge to $200 per TEU from the current $175 per TEU as of Dec. 15.
MSC is also cancelling the low water surcharge for cargo shipped to Manaus on the Amazon River in Brazil as of Dec. 1. The surcharge, which had been in effect since Oct. 20, was $500 per TEU.
