Containerized cargo out of Port Everglades, Fla., exceeded previous-year volume by 9.6 percent in October and November, the port said.
The port handled 136,568 TEUs in the first two months of its fiscal 2011, compared with 124,693 TEUs in the same period of fiscal 2010. Spokeswoman Ellen Kennedy said that the increase shows the port’s recovery from the recession, but the 2011 month-to-month volume is lower than the record set in 2008.
Port Everglades handled 985,095 TEUs in 2008, 796,160 TEUs in 2009, and 793,227 TEUS in 2010. Volumes were on a steady upward path between 2002 and 2008, and the 2010 volume matches the port’s totals for 2005.
