DHL said it is starting a direct less-than-containerload service from Nhava Sheva, Mumbai, in India to Durban, South Africa.
Nhava Sheva is India’s busiest container port and Durban is the busiest in South Africa.
The company’s forwarding division said it aims to take advantage of growing trade between the two emerging economies, with two-way trade rising nearly four-fold in the last five years, from $9.9 billion in 2004-05 to $39 billion in 2008-09. The company has set up a dedicated India desk in 10 African countries in the past year to foster business.
