APL is extending its North Asia Philippines Express feeder service to cover Central China and Manila in the Philippines this month.
The Singapore-based carrier will deploy three vessels on the enhanced service, each with a capacity of 1,100 20-foot equivalent units.
APL's move is designed to meet demand for cargo moving on the intra-Asia trade, which is growing at double-digit rates.
The NPX service will start calling Manila twice weekly on its routes from Kaohsiung.
The enhanced port rotation will be Ningbo, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Chiwan, Kaohsiung, Manila, Cebu, Cagayan, Kaohsiung and Ningbo.
APL said the South China and Hong Kong markets are better served with direct calls to Manila. Enhanced connections also link Philippine markets with Central China and other Asian markets through calls in Kaohsiung.
Southeast Asian markets can connect at Kaohsiung with APL's intra-Asia services, the Korea China Straits and Japan Thailand Vietnam services. North Asia cargo bound for the Philippines can connect to NPX using KCS and JTV services via Hong Kong.
