German group Hamburg Süd is moving some of its container transport operations in Brazil from Santos port in the southeastern state of São Paulo to Suape port in the northeastern state of Pernambuco, according to Business News Americas.
The Pernambuco state government has signed an agreement with the company, which encompasses the operation of a new container transport route to and from Asia, according to a Pernambuco state government release.
"Travel time will be significantly reduced. We will offer delivery deadlines that can't be beaten," said Julian Thomas, CEO of Hamburg Süd in Brazil.
The shipping firm will operate 11 vessels along the route and expects to have its first ship docked at Suape on August 4. Cargo will then be distributed mainly to the north and northeast of Brazil, the release said.
