DHL is starting a weekly less-than-containerload ocean service from New York Harbor to Durban, South Africa.
The logistics company said the weekly service is designed for U.S. shippers that want to break into the African market with the option of transporting small amounts of cargo.
The LCL weekly service, which started June 23, will have sailings every Thursday from the Port of New York and New Jersey.
As the largest container terminal in the Southern Hemisphere, Durban serves as a strategic location for the transportation of goods to and from 18 destinations on the southern part of the African continent.
DHL said the new service enables U.S. exporters and South African importers to ship cargo to and from New York directly, rather than routing via Europe.
