Eimskip is expanding its Iceland-North America container service with the addition of a second vessel to keep pace with an upturn in industrial and fish cargoes in Newfoundland.
The Icelandic carrier will deploy the new ship, which has a capacity of 700 20-foot equivalent units, July 15 on a revised sailing schedule based on two calls a month at Everett, Mass., which is in the Boston vicinity, and Argentia, Newfoundland, and monthly calls at Halifax, Canada, and Norfolk, Va.
The new vessel will focus on the service to Newfoundland and Everett.
The expanded service is also aimed at meeting increased demand for transport services between Newfoundland and Europe, where Eimskip calls at Hamburg and ports in Denmark, Norway and Scotland.
