Frankfurt airport’s cargo traffic fell 6.4 percent in June from a year ago due mainly to slightly lower Asian shipments.
The 183,502 tons handled in June was also down 4.3 percent tons that passed through Europe’s largest air cargo airport in May.
Airport owner Fraport said the June result was skewed by comparison with the extraordinarily strong volume increase in 2010 as the global economy pulled out of recession.
The recent decline also is due to a drop in Asian shipments following anti-inflationary measures in China and the impact of the earthquake in Japan on the country’s supply chains.
Frankfurt’s first-half traffic was 1 percent up on the 2010 period at 1.12 million tons.
