Shanghai ports handled 15.3 million TEUs of containers in the first half of this year, up 10.5 percent from a year earlier and in line with the city's 30-million-TEU estimate at the beginning of this year.
The growth rate, however, was lower than last year's 18.8 percent, even though Shanghai remained the world's largest container and dry-bulk goods port.
Dry-bulk goods turnover rose 11.7 percent year-on-year to 236.1 million tonnes in the first six months of this year, Shanghai International Port (Group) Co, operator of the world's busiest port, said.
SIPG chairman Chen Xuyuan said last month that Shanghai's container volume is expected to rise 10 percent annually in the next five years.
Industry people said the growth rate is slowing down because the base number is already at a high level.
