Throughput at ports in the southeast Chinese province of Fujian from January to August rose 8.3 percent year-over-year to 6.1 million 20-foot equivalent container units.
The Port of Xiamen, the province’s biggest container gateway, handled 4 million TEUs, up 6.4 percent, according to government statistics published by Xinhua, a Chinese newspaper. The Port of Fuzhou’s traffic during the same period rose nearly 10 percent to 1.06 million TEUs.
The region’s ports saw a total throughput increase of 15.7 percent to 242 million metric tons in the same period.
