Vietnam, Japan venture to build two wharves in Lach Huyen Port

11/8/2011 9:45:00 AM

A joint venture between Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) and Japan’s Molnykit has received a licence to build two wharves and a container warehouse at Lach Huyen port in the northern region.

Costs for construction of the two wharfs with a total length of 750m and a depth of 14m and a 22-ha container warehouse is estimated at US$321 million.

Lach Huyen seaport is among Vietnam’s key infrastructure projects, which will get Japanese official development assistance (ODA), besides Noi Bai International Airport and Noi Bai-Nhat Tan Highway.

Once completed, the $1.7 billion international port will be able to handle six million tonnes of goods a year. The figure is expected to rise to 35 million-50 million tonnes in 2020.
