Oman Air, the sultanate's state-owned carrier, said it would buy six Boeing Co 787-8 Dreamliners in a US$1.16 billion deal, the first order in 2011.
The average list price for a 787-8, according to Boeing's website, is $193.5 million.
"Our decision to order the 787-8 is part of Oman Air's long-term growth strategy to expand and modernize our fleet with newer, more fuel-efficient airplanes," said Oman Air chief executive Peter Hill. Established in 1993, Oman Air currently flies to 41 destinations from its hub in Muscat.
Built of carbon fibre, the Dreamliner will save fuel costs and is more aerodynamic than other commercial jets of a similar size.
