United Arab Shipping imposed a $775 general rate increase on Asia-Europe services effective March 1, joining other major container ship operators in seeking rate restoration on the depressed trade lanes.
The planned increase, per 20-foot container, will apply to all dry and refrigerated cargo moving from Asia to ports in North Europe and the Mediterranean. UASC said it will consider implementing a “fuel compensation surcharge” at short notice if bunker prices continue to rise.
Over the past few weeks, other ocean carriers, including Maersk Line, Hapag-Lloyd, OOCL, Hanjin Shipping and MSC, have issued similar rate increase notices on the Asia-Europe trade lanes.
